Trevallyn Bridge

South Esk Bridge

Before it was Kings Bridge with two spans, it was,  South Esk Bridge, with just a single span.  Great story.

In our program of Guided Walking Tours, Tour II is also very popular!

You will meet your Launceston Up Close tour guide at the Post Office on the corner of St John and Cameron Streets.  By the way, the Launceston Visitors Centre is right next door if there are any other activities you might like to do in Launceston or the Tamar Valley.  So we start our guided walking tour at the Post Office, we head down to the North Esk past Patterson Barracks.  We turn left past Customs House and cross into Seaport.  The boardwalk takes us past the marina and around opposite the confluence of the North and South Esk Rivers, where they become the Tamar River.

We continue around under the shadow of Ritchie's Mill and up onto Kings Bridge at the mouth of Cataract Gorge.  Then we about turn and follow Bridge Road to the steps of Penny Royal, our own little theme park which features the life of the Gentleman Bushranger, Matthew Brady.  We will go into Penny Royal for a squiz, maybe an ice-cream or a coffee, and if there is time, you might want to go for an very entertaining boat ride.

From Penny Royal we follow an old tram track down to a sweet shop, and continue back into town along Patterson Street past the academic side of Launnie.  We then cross Wellington Street, and walk along Wellington St up to Cameron Street and Struan House for another story.  Then its down past the excellent terrace houses on Cameron Street to Bennell House, across Charles to Civic Square and the Town Hall and we are back where we started, which ends Tour II of our Guided Walking Tours.

Tour II also takes about two hours, may be a bit more, depending on how much time we take at Penny Royal.
